Under the direction of the Senior Client Navigator, the NIHB Client Navigator will be based in The Pas, MB. The NIHB Client Navigator will provide quality assurance and assistance to eligible First Nations and Inuit clients who are experiencing challenges accessing Non-Insured Health Benefits in addition to provincial and territorial programs and services.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Develop and implement Indigenous culturally safe services and strategies that assist in improving the health of Indigenous patients and their families.
• Serve as a first point of contact for communities, organizations, and individuals for the purpose of facilitating access to the Non-Insured health Benefit Program and provide support to address NIHB denials and appeals.
• Collaborate with NIHB regional office on programs/projects/initiatives that would improve awareness and access to the NIHB Program and better integration of health services.
• Liaise with First Nation health services, professional organizations, and health service providers in order to assist eligible clients to navigate the NIHB Program on related benefits access.
• Develop a communication strategy and implement approaches to improve First Nation awareness and understanding of the NIHB Program.
• Promote understanding of the role of the navigator among communities, agencies, and health care providers in the region.
• Maintain a network of contact in order to strengthen relationships with stakeholders, heath care service providers and partners.
• Identify training needs and opportunities for improving access to health services and health outcomes.
• Maintain confidentiality of all clients and records.
• Follow and maintain FIPPA and PHIA guidelines.
• Liaise with community health services providers.
• Maintain and track client data for reporting purposes to funder and MKO.
• Maintain daily journal logs.
• Assist in public awareness of NIHB.
• Address serous issues and systemic complaints, work with Senior Client Navigator to make recommendations for improvement.
• Assist with report preparation as required by Senior Client Navigator.
• MKO is a political advocacy organization that works to represent the leadership and member First Nations. All staff at MKO may be given other duties as assigned that enable MKO to fulfill the mandate and responsibility to its member communities.
Education and Experience
• Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent education and experience would be considered.
• Knowledge of the Non-Insured Health Benefit Program is an asset.
• Preference will be given to a First Nation individual who has knowledge of MKO First Nation communities and culture.
• The ability to speak Dene, Cree or Oji-Cree is an asset.
• Must have proven well-developed verbal and written communication skills, staff/public relations, must be highly self-motivated and able to work well independently or as a team member.
• Must have proficient computer skills, proven experience with word processing and database entry skills.
• Must have valid Manitoba Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transportation.
• Must be innovative and decisive with high-level organizational and analytical skills.
• Must demonstrate the ability to work with a high level of tact and discretion.
• Must have the ability to work with the public in a professional and respectful way.
• Candidate must be willing to submit to a criminal and/or child abuse registry check.
Salary is dependant upon qualifications and experience
