Yesterday, on February 15, 2023, Grand Chief Garrison Settee travelled to Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) and The Pas for the opening day of the 76th Annual Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival taking place from February 15 to 19, 2023.
He met The Pas Mayor Andre Murphy along with OCN Chief Sidney Ballantyne and Manitoba Metis Federation The Pas Region Vice President Judy Mayer at the opening ceremonies located in the Ice Fort constructed on the shores of the Saskatchewan River.
Grand Chief Settee visited the dog sled racers while they were registering for the World Championship Dog Race, and later ended the day by bringing greetings to them at the Mushers Briefing where he met Kin Canada District 2 Governor Bert Baxter, Trappers Festival Chair Desarae Lambert-George, and Elder Sue Lambert, a long time volunteer board member of the Trappers Festival.
This morning, on February 16, while attending the dog sled race at the 76th Annual Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival in The Pas, Grand Chief Garrison Settee was joined by the Grade 5 class from Mosakahiken School.
In the afternoon, Grand Chief Settee had the opportunity to tour the Ice Fort and Trappers Festival Headquarters where he met Manitoba Minister for Natural Resources and Northern Development, the Honourable Greg Nisbitt.
Later in the day, he visited the Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival craft show at Uptown Mall. He was very impressed with the artwork created by the youth of the X-Roads Teen Centre.
