Treaty Five Territory Thompson, MB – Grand Chief Garrison Settee, on behalf of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) and the Northern First Nations, extends deepest prayers, condolences, and support to the Filipino community and all families grieving after the tragic events in Vancouver.
“Our hearts are heavy. We share in your mourning. The loss of innocent lives wounds not just one family or one community, it touches all of us as human beings,” said Grand Chief Settee. “There is no rightful reason for such harm to be done. We stand against violence in all its forms.”
Grand Chief Settee also expressed appreciation for the police and first responders who moved quickly to care for those affected during this crisis.
“In our ways, life is a sacred gift. When that gift is taken from us unjustly, we grieve together, we heal together, and we pray together. MKO joins with the Filipino community in sorrow and solidarity. You are not alone. We lift you up in prayer.”
