MKO Grand Chief stands with affected Families on landfill search

Halifax, Nova Scotia-Grand Chief Garrison Settee is making the following statement in support of the affected families who are reeling following Manitoba Premier Heather Stephenson’s decision to not move ahead with a search of the Prairie Green landfill.

He states:

“We stand in solidarity with the families and our fellow political Indigenous organizations on this issue,” said Grand Chief Settee. “We were shocked and dismayed at the decision Premier Stephenson came to in deciding to not proceed with a search of the landfill. Our position remains steadfast, we want the search to proceed in order to bring closure for the families. The main disappointment is that we’re now into politics, the bodies of our women have been reduced to a wedge that is being used to create disharmony between provincial and federal governments and that is simply shameful.”
