MKO Introduces the Two-Spirit Flag at All Assemblies and Gatherings

Treaty 5 Territory, Thompson, Mb –  Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. is proud to announce the adoption of a landmark resolution at its 45th Annual General Assembly, held at Manto Sipi Cree Nation the week of August 24th, to ensure the Two-Spirit flag is respectfully carried during the Grand Entry and displayed at all MKO assemblies and gatherings.

The resolution also affirms MKO’s longstanding recognition of the important roles that Two-Spirit people have played within First Nations cultures and traditions. MKO commits to fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, honour, love, and acknowledgement for all Two-Spirit relatives in its workplaces, programs, and activities. The organization will promote greater awareness and education about Two-Spirit people among leadership, staff, and member First Nations.

MKO recognizes that greater awareness and education about Two-Spirit people can help address discrimination and misunderstanding, while strengthening unity within First Nations communities. The organization is committed to ensuring that all relatives experience love, dignity, respect, inclusion, and a true sense of belonging.
