Treaty Five Territory, Thompson, MB – Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO) is issuing this statement in relation to violence against a 19-year-old female who was in the custody of the Thompson RCMP in January 2018.
“The violence experienced by an MKO citizen at the hands of the community safety officer is shocking and unacceptable. Meanwhile, the RCMP had a role in protecting this woman,” stated Grand Chief Garrison Settee. “We will address this callous act of violence against an Indigenous woman as we are one of the strongest advocates of the protection of women in Canada. This is deeply disturbing.”
