Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, MBManitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO) is encouraging residents in Northern Manitoba to be aware that the RCMP are searching for two men suspected of carrying out three homicides in Northern British Columbia.

Yesterday evening the RCMP shared that they have reasons to believe that Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky may be in the Fox Lake/Gillam area in Northern Manitoba. The RCMP are asking residents to look at photos of the suspects and contact police immediately if you have seen them anytime over the last few days.

The RCMP provided the following descriptions of the suspects:

Kam McLeod, age 19, is described as:

  • 6 foot 4
  • About 169 pounds
  • Dark brown hair and facial hair
  • Brown eyes

Bryer Schmegelsky, age 18, is described as:

  • 6 foot 4
  • About 169 pounds
  • Sandy brown hair

“I encourage residents in the area of Fox Lake to remain vigilant while the RCMP conduct their search for these two suspects,” stated Grand Chief Garrison Settee. “If you think you see these suspects, please consider them as dangerous. Do not approach them. Contact the RCMP or call 911 immediately.”

The RCMP have asked the public to call the Major Crime Tipline at 1-877-543-4822 if you have seen these two men over the last several days. The investigation is complex and evolving quickly. MKO will provide any updates about this situation as they are received.
