Treaty Five Territory, Pimicikamak Cree Nation, Cross Lake, MB – Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Inc. is distributing this release on behalf of the Pimicikamak Cree Nation, which is happy to announce the Cross Lake Hospital and Infrastructure Projects “Turning of Sod Ceremony” on July 27, 2021.

Pimicikamak, a Nation of approximately 8,500 on reserve, will be conducting a “Turning of Sod Ceremony” for the new $55 million hospital and $27 million infrastructure project. The new hospital was announced in 2016 and finally has come to fruition after many negotiations with the federal government. Cross Lake developed a Project Charter that would give the opportunity for the community to hire their own people, utilize their own companies, and keep economic benefits within the Nation.

Chief David Monias states, “This groundbreaking event marks the creation of a setting, an environment, a hospital, in which the real work for the health of our community, family, and the children, our future, will happen! For the love of our people, past and present leadership and staff worked hard together to make a great investment for the healthcare services in our community. The medical care and compassion, the love and the healing that will take place in this facility is much needed and long awaited.”
