In January 2021, MKO established a Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) Program. The program is run through a partnership with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to meet the needs of Northern Manitobans who need help obtaining a secure status card or Treaty number.
Our SCIS Program office is on the main floor at 55 Selkirk Avenue in Thompson.

Why this program exists:
Our program exists to help make it easier to obtain a secure status card in Northern Manitoba.
First Nations people in Northern Manitoba receive help from our program in applying for:
- new status cards;
- replacement status cards;
- renewed status cards; and
- to receive Treaty status.
MKO Status Identification Intake Clerks have completed training to be designated as a trusted source. MKO is the first trusted source organization in Canada. Our clerks are authorized to handle personal information and applications. They will fill out applications with you, take your photo, and send the completed application to ISC’s headquarters in Gatineau, Quebec.
Our program assisted more than 2500 people within our first year of operation, showing the need for accessible status card and identification services in Northern Manitoba.
There is no fee to access these services.
