Lac Brochet, Treaty 10 Territory- MKO is releasing the following regarding the body of a 15-year-old girl found in a Thompson park on Tuesday.
“We grieve with the family at this time,” said MKO Grand Chief Garrison Settee. “Right now, we have to be there for them. Their child did not come home and now there is a void there that will never be filled.”
MKO has responded by dispatching the Mobile Crisis Response Team and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Liaison Unit in addition to other local agencies to provide the family with supports.
There are plans underway to organize a vigil for the girl in Thompson. As of this afternoon those plans have yet to be finalized. Please visit MKO’s facebook page for further updates.
The matter remains under investigation by the RCMP and any questions regarding that are to be directed to RCMP Media Relations at (204) 983-5420.
MKO will be offering no further comment on this matter until new information becomes available.
We are also asking media to respect the family’s privacy at this time.
