With the recent deaths and other incidences of self-harm in the last weeks, Tataskweyak Cree Nation is declaring a state of emergency for the community of Split Lake in Northern Manitoba.

We are calling for immediate mental wellness supports and long-term solutions for our community members.

We have also reached out to the mobile crisis teams from MKO and the Keewatin Tribal Council. To support these efforts, we are requesting additional support from Health Canada, Indigenous Services Canada, the RCMP and the Province of Manitoba. They must bring long-term solutions, such as 24/7 in-community mental health counselling.

We have reached a breaking point and our community is under crisis with alcohol and drugs contributing to it.
