Under the direction of the Program Manager of the Mobile Crisis Response Team, the Crisis Team Therapist will be responsible for providing therapy to members of the Mobile Crisis Response Team with the necessary care and support in therapy for members who respond to suicide, crisis, trauma, homicide and fatalities, and in the members areas of personal lives and interpersonal relationships with each other as a team. There are two teams of the Mobile Crisis Response Team that reside in Winnipeg and Thompson, the therapist is required to attend to both locations as per agreed schedules with team members needs for therapy.
Note: This is a full-time staff position. Client-base is internal MCRT Staff.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Conduct initial consultation with each team member.
• Assess emotional and mental health and other needs for therapy.
• Develop therapy plans to meet the needs of the team member based on the timelines of their availability and long term timeframes will be needed as per example; 1 Consult, 2 to 3 Assessment sessions, 10 Emotional Release Therapy (ERT) sessions, 10 Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) sessions, 10 Dialectical Behavior Therapy (BDT) sessions and Creative/Release Expression Art Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for triggers and panic/anxiety attacks on demand as needed and based on an agreed upon time/schedule.
• Guiding and leading through mental/emotional health exercises.
• Facilitate individual, group and team therapy sessions.
• Facilitate emergency debriefing to team members as needed upon agreed arrangement.
• Be flexible and open to be available to MCRT members on an agreed-on call basis.
• Emergency assessment for self-harm risks for team members recommendations for therapy and/or treatment in a formal written document.
• Provide therapy in the context of healing from trauma, trauma recovery and addiction recovery processes.
• Quick to respond to assess the level of risk and immediate needs, and then provide a safety plan to prevent psychological disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
• Works as part of a dedicated team.
• Always Maintain compliancy with governmental Child Abuse Disclosure requirements.
• Maintains appropriate documentation and keeps detailed notes of client and stakeholder interactions.
• Respects the right of confidentiality in all matters affecting or involving clients in accordance with The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) —requests for information regarding clients from persons not authorized or entitled to receive such information without the client’s written consent.
• Provides appropriate referrals and advocacy support where MCRT members may not be able meet their immediate needs.
• Ensures the secure handling and storage of confidential documents.
• Work inclusively with gender diverse people.

Education and Experience

• Post Secondary Degree and/or a graduate credential (certificate, diploma) in counselling, therapy, mental health, CBT, DBT, ERT, EMDR and/or art therapy and/or psychology.
• Licensed and/or registered therapist through a regulatory board or agency or organization within the province of Manitoba and/or Canada.
• Must have a graduate credential in counselling, therapy, mental health and accrued supervised clinical experience within the province of Manitoba and/or Canada.
• Basic, intermediate and advance therapy processes, skills, experience and practices, and education.
• Knowledge of First Nations traditional healing, teachings, customs and systemic trauma experience by indigenous people in residential school, children’s aid society, justice and probation, poverty and family/interpersonal violence.
• 3-5 years’ experience providing therapy in a crisis response environment.
• Recovered and healthy in body, mind, spirit, emotion, sexuality and triggers.
• A willingness to travel Winnipeg and Thompson office locations.
• Proficient knowledge of Internet, E-mail and other business-related computer software.
• Experience in working with clients who have experienced acute, chronic and complex trauma and will follow a trauma informed care approach.
• A current Police Security Clearance and satisfactory Criminal Records check including clearance to work with vulnerable women, youth and child Intervention.
• Satisfactory “Child Abuse Registry” check.
• Ability to effectively manage time and demands within a reasonable agreed upon approach.
• Valid Class 5 drivers’ licence with current drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
• Preference will be given to First Nations candidates.
