1.What are the eligibility requirements for people to receive the MKO Evacuation Relief Fund?

Answer:

    • They are permanent residents of Manitoba.
    • They have a primary residence in a First Nation that has been placed under a mandatory evacuation order due to wildfire or smoke
    • The mandatory evacuation order was issued on or after May 23, 2025.
    • They are registered with the Canadian Red Cross.
    • Their identity has been confirmed through the Canadian Red Cross.

2. What documentation and identification is required in order to apply?

Answer:

In order to apply you will need your Canadian Red Cross number and status (Treaty) number. Photo identification is preferred (Driver’s License and/or Status Card), however we recognize not everyone may have photo identification, in that case the Canadian Red Cross Card with your name and number can be accepted.

If you have not registered with the Canadian Red Cross you may register online at redcross.ca/2025manitobawildfires or by telephone at 1-800-863-6582. If you do not know your Canadian Red Cross number, you may call them directly at the number listed above.

3.What if I am non status but live in one of the affected communities listed above?

Answer:

Please reach out to the Canadian Red Cross to receive payment.

4.What amount of compensation are people entitled to receive?

Answer:

The financial benefit for Manitobans evacuated under a mandatory order will be $34 per day for each person aged 13 and older and $27 per day for each child aged 12 and under 

This funding will help support basic needs and costs while a mandatory evacuation order remains in place for their First Nation.

5. How are funds being dispersed to evacuees?

Answer:

The Canadian Red Cross and MKO are issuing funds to support evacuees on behalf of the provincial and federal governments. Funds will be issued to the member of the household indicated on the registration form via e-transfer (if a valid email address was provided in registration), direct deposit or a prepaid card or payment. The first payment issued will cover two weeks of support, with subsequent payments issued based on the duration of evacuation orders.

6.How long will it take to receive my payment?

Answer:   * ONCE IDENTITY IS VERIFIED AND APPROVED* 

  • Email money transfer (EMT) – it may take 1-2 days to process
  • WE Financial Card – it may take 2 business days to process
  • Direct Deposit (EFT) – it may take 1-2 days to process
  • Cheque – it may take 2-3 business days to get a cheque to you *Banks may hold cheques for 5 business days*

7.How will cheques be distributed? 

Answer:

Cheques will be distributed at the hotel or shelter where evacuees are registered

8. What if someone texts me or emails to tell me to contact them about my application?

Answer:

MKO will contact you directly at the number you have provided on your financial form if there are questions about your application. Watch for scam links sent to your text, email or messenger. BEWARE of Fraud!! 

9. What do I do if I filled out the financial form incorrectly?

Answer:
