CLIENT NAVIGATOR
2 Full Time Positions – Winnipeg and Thompson
Under the direction of the Family First Nations Secretariat Supervisor, the Post Majority Support Services (PMSS) Client Navigator will begin outreach and engagement work as it relates to PMSS to provide coordination and planning for youth and young adults who are or who have transitioned out of care from the ages of 18 to 26 that are eligible for post-majority services supports. PMSS Client Navigator will support the safety and well-being of First Nations youth and young adults in an approach that is culturally appropriate to assist them in thriving in their transition to adulthood.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide direct services such as activities; services and costs that ensure young people, have opportunities to learn and grow in ways that are meaningful to them, their goals and life plan.
- Ensure that clients have the financial resources to meet their needs in a secure and consistent way.
- Provide ongoing services in a timely manner that support client health and well-being connection to their families, culture and communities in ways that meet their needs and are meaningful to them.
- Work with interdepartmental staff to meet the needs of the client and identify gaps in services in which you will need to utilize skills such as planning, organization, problem-solving, decision making, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Maintain and ensure a high level of confidentiality and safekeeping of all client and organization documents and records.
- Strong knowledge and the ability to navigate the four funding streams for eligible activities for Post Majority Support Services clients.
- Build positive relationships with partners and resources to ensure systems are in place for effective collaborative service availability for youth, families, parents, and caregivers to help identify client personal strengths, to promote growth, self-worth, and a sense of belonging.
- Navigation and identification of culturally responsive strategies and interventions as part of youth healing pathway, pro-social daily recreational and social activities that include coordinated culturally responsive interventions.
- Works collaboratively with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to develop and facilitate cultural appropriate programming to pass on traditional knowledge and cultural practices, strengthening the youth’s bond and connection within their families and communities.

Education and Experience
- College/University degree in Social Services/Human Services and at least 2 years of experience in case management, working in health, social or educational sectors by providing community-based services.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Must have exceptional interpersonal, leadership, team building and reporting skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Software and computer competencies.
- Knowledge of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc First Nation communities’ culture and the Urban/Rural Indigenous community.
- Working knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of MKO including the service delivery model, policies, procedures, guidelines, mission statement and core values of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc.
- Working knowledge of group dynamics supported with working knowledge in consultation and conflict resolution techniques.
- Working knowledge and navigation access to existing supports and resources in the community, such as education resources, income security, housing supports, employment services and training, health and mental services, legal
- Understanding of Post Majority Support Services
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous children, youth and families in a healing and wellness capacity is an asset.
- Knowledge of cultural teachings and healing such as the Medicine Wheel concepts is a requirement.
- Must be self-motivated, results orientated, personable and charismatic, well organized, diplomatic, have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task while being able to work with minimal supervision and in a team-oriented setting.
- Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills are a requirement.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s license and be willing to travel when required.
- Knowledge of at least one Indigenous language or able to understand would be an asset.
- Must possess a current Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child abuse Check.
