FAMILY WELLNESS NAVIGATOR
MKO Youth Justice Initiative
2-Year Term Position – Thompson, Manitoba
In partnership with Marymound Inc, the MKO Youth Justice Initiative will deliver interventions and programming that is culturally responsive to the needs of Youth, Families, Parents, and Caregivers. As Manitoba’s Social Impact Bond (SIB) to address youth justice involvement, the Reduction Youth Justice Involvement SIB aims to decrease the number of days Manitoba’s youth spend in custody, while increasing connections to their cultures and identities.
MKO is seeking a Family Wellness Navigator to engage with youth, families, parents, and caregivers to promote safety and wellness. This position provides High Fidelity Wraparound facilitation to develop a team that focuses on the development and ongoing support of a healing pathway for the youth/family. The Family Wellness Navigator will ensure the family, parents and caregivers voice is effectively part of the creation of culturally responsive plans and interventions. The Family Wellness Navigator will ensure families, parents and caregivers that require additional support and guidance to maintain family unity or reunification in a manner that respects a family centred and culturally responsive approach. The Family Wellness Navigator will work as part of a collaborative team and support program activities with both the youth and their families.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Engages with youth, families, parents, and caregivers to build trust and rapport, hear their story, and ensure their voice, concerns, and other issues are heard as part of the High-Fidelity Wraparound/Healing Pathway process.
- Delivers the High-fidelity wraparound model in keeping with the model’s design and fidelity measures; engages youth, family and their supports and formal system supports in creating individualized healing plans and actions, facilitates ongoing team meetings as per the model.
- Builds positive relationships with youth, families, parents, and caregivers helping to identify personal strengths to promote growth, self-worth, and a sense of belonging.
- Navigates and identifies culturally responsive strategies and interventions as part of youth healing pathway.
- Navigates and identifies pro-social daily recreational and social activities, including coordinated culturally responsive interventions.
- Works collaboratively with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to develop and facilitate cultural appropriate programming to pass on traditional knowledge and cultural practices, strengthening the youth’s bond and connection within their families and communities.
- Navigates access to existing supports and resources in the community, such as education resources, income security, housing supports, employment services and training, health and mental services, legal services, etc.
- Engages in behaviour management, intervening in crisis situations as needed/required.
- Maintains accurate and objective notes, documentation, and files.
- Demonstrates an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.
Education and Experience
- Knowledge of Indigenous teachings, culture and history including participating in cultural activities, practices, and ceremonies alongside youth.
- Knowledge of Indigenous teachings, culture and history including participating culturally appropriate activities, practices and services alongside youth.
- Demonstrated Case Management experience working with and supporting youth, families, parents, and caregivers.
- Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and/or environment.
- Experience working from a trauma-informed perspective is preferred.
- Knowledgeable in the planning, delivery and coordination of culturally responsive plans and interventions.
- Knowledge and confidence in teaching and role modeling parent/caregiver support.
- Experience and/or knowledge of the Wraparound Intervention Model/Process will be considered an asset. (Training to be provided for High-Fidelity Wraparound Facilitation)
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience working in Indigenous or Northern Communities.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours as required.
- Possess a valid Manitoba driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Produce a satisfactory criminal record, child and adult abuse registry and vulnerable sector checks.
- Preference will be given to Indigenous Peoples.
