Mobile Crisis Response Team 
Full Time Position – Thompson or Winnipeg

Under the direction of the Crisis Coordinator, the Mobile Crisis Intervention Team Member will be responsible for providing rapid crisis intervention and support in remote/Isolated First Nations communities throughout Manitoba in the priority areas of suicide, grief or bereavement, but also in the areas of mental health, substance abuse, trauma, family violence or other crisis. All work will be carried out in a manner that is consistent with Indigenous culture and values.

The Mobile Crisis Intervention Team Member will have an integrated approach to delivering crisis response activity and LGBTQ2S life promotion. The Incumbent is required to deliver culturally responsive, dignified, trauma informed, and professional care to LGBTQ2S First Nations members in Manitoba.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Travel to remote/isolated First Nations communities throughout Manitoba, usually at very short notice.
  • Commit to the continuous learning of the LGBTQ2S community social needs, impacts and changes.
  • Provide rapid crisis intervention and support in the priority area of suicide but also mental health, trauma, family violence and care for LGBTQ2S.
  • Quick to respond to assess the level of risk and immediate needs, and then provide a safety plan in an effort to prevent psychological disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Works as part of a dedicated team.
  • Works and foster relationships among LGBTQ2S community Elders, storytellers, knowledge keepers and members.
  • Maintain compliancy with governmental Child Abuse Disclosure requirements at all times.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation and keeps detailed notes of client and stakeholder interactions.
  • Respects the right of confidentiality in all matters affecting or involving clients in accordance with The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) —requests for information regarding clients from persons not authorized or entitled to receive such information without the client’s written consent.
  • Engage as part of the broader network of supports currently in place, including any provincial health authority, treatment centres and or all other mental health supports and/or services.
  • Participation as requested, in development and improvement processes that affect First Nations community crisis programs and support services.
  • Provides appropriate temporary advocacy support where clients may not be able meet their immediate needs.
  • Contributes to a broader strategy to provide greater capacity within Indigenous communities to respond to crisis.
  • Ensures the secure handling and storage of confidential documents.
  • Will participate in the harvesting of traditional medicines.
  • Assists other team members and carries out other duties as needed and assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • First Nations traditional healing practices as a traditional elder or spiritual leader.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a crisis response environment.
  • Life experience as a member of LGBTQ2S community.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • A willingness to travel.
  • Working knowledge of Internet, E-mail and other business-related computer software.
  • Have or be willing to complete and practice ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
  • Have or be willing to complete and practice NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention).
  • A current Police Security Clearance and satisfactory Criminal Records check including clearance to work with vulnerable women, youth and child Intervention.
  • Satisfactory “Child Abuse Registry” check.
  • Satisfactory “Child Abuse Registry” check.

Salary is dependant upon qualifications and experience.
