From September 16 to 18, 2022, the Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO) Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Liaison Unit hosted a land-based healing gathering for families of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people (MMIWG2S+) and survivors of gender-based violence.
The Healing Gathering, “Looking After Our Mother Earth in a Good Way,” brought together about 30 participants who spent three days connecting with one another and attending workshops focused on trauma-informed care, traditional land-based healing practices, and traditional medicines.
Initial feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing how they felt cared for and anticipate attending future healing gatherings.
From the MKO MMIWG Liaison Unit, we thank all MMIWG2S+ family members, survivors, and community members who made this gathering a great success.
