Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, MB – Starting on July 1, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO) will begin sharing the Calls to Justice from the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). The final report was released on June 3, 2019.
“Reclaiming Power and Place is essential reading material for all Canadians and Canada Day is a great time to remind people to take the time to learn more about the impacts of colonization on Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit people,” said Grand Chief Garrison Settee.
“At the MKO we are going to make it easy for everyone to read the Calls to Justice by sharing one each day on our Facebook page,” stated Grand Chief Settee. “I want to encourage everyone to read each recommendation carefully and find at least one recommendation to implement in their daily lives—there is truly something for everyone in the report.”
MKO will share all of the Calls to Justice starting on Canada Day. The Calls to Justice will appear on our Facebook page every day until December 5, 2019. Our Facebook page can be found here.
